Agricultural Census 2011/2012 Validation Workshop

The Planning Services held the Agricultural Census 2011/2012 Validation Workshop at Atlantic Hotel in Banjul on 4 October 2012. This was the 2nd agricultural census review conducted by the Planning Services, the first one was done in 2002 for the Agricultural Census 2001/2002.

 The workshop was well attended by TCP sponsors namely FAO Country Representative Dr. Amadou Babagana, WFP Country Representative Ms. Victoria Ginja and UNDP Representative Dr. Almamy Camara. Mr. Musa Huma, Director General of the Department of Agriculture hosted the event. Also present was Ministry of Agriculture Principal Secretary 1 Alfu Marong, Gambia Bureau of Statistics Deputy Director General Mr. Ousman Divva and FAO Retiree Consultant Mr. Chypee Palmer. 50 participants from the Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR), Ministry of Agriculture, NGOs and business sector also attended the workshop.

The workshop was the culmination of all the Agricultural Census Activities. Topics discussed were methodology, data processing, household characteristics and demographic data/socio-economic data, holding characteristics area yield and production and village characteristics community base. During the workshop participants were expected to give comments and recommendations on the topics discussed to revise and validate the agriculture census report.
